Friday, April 18th, 2008

First things first, just how do you choose a good veterinarian for your reptile bearded dragon lizard friend? The decision of who to choose could be tough yet when a good bearded dragon lizard vet is found, you can rest assured that your reptile will have a healthy life ahead of him.

Mouse In The House

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Day one

I awoke early in the morning about 3:00 A.M. to the sound of stirring above the drop ceiling in our basement bathroom, the weather-had turn cold and had driven something into our warm home. We have lived in the same house for more than thirty years and have had only one mouse get in during the first few years that we occupied the house, so I was surprised. As I do most of the work or had in the past, I was sure that there were no openings that a mouse could get through but apparently I was wrong. Our parents live upstairs on the main floor and we no occupy the basement.

Natural Alternatives For Keeping Your Horse

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Weeds can be poisonous to horses and unfortunately weed management is not as simple as killing or removing offensive plants that grow where we don’t want them to grow. If pastures are not fertilized, if they are eroded, under watered, trampled or overgrazed, the pasture becomes stressed. A stressed pasture is a haven for harmful weeds. It does not make for quality forage for grazing horses of produce quality hay. Careful management of your horse pasture must be considered to eliminate weeds. Animal impact, mechanical, or burning are non chemical weed controls to be considered.

Alligator Trivia - Can You Tell The Tail?

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Residents in Florida and other Southern states probably know a thing or two about alligators. As “deer crossing” signs and “I brake for field mice” bumper stickers fill the lives of Northern residents, folks who live along the Gulf of Mexico find themselves pausing for alligator crossings and braking at the slightest hint of a tail. Perhaps it’s that old fashioned Southern hospitality, or a warm climate, but alligators certainly know where to make themselves at home.

Those of you who are residents of the South may have seen your fair share of alligators, but how much do you really know about the species? Take our quiz to find out….you’ll be everglade, er, ever glad you did.

Pet Health Issue - Young Pets, Overweight Pets, And Older Pets, During The Summer

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

The statistics of pet ownership has been climbing for years. Every day many more people go out and become new pet owners, and some of us have had pets longer then some jobs or even marriages. Regardless of how long you have had your pet, you will have to deal with at least two of the issues I am about to address, that of summer health issues and the age or weight of your pets.

At present we have 4 dogs being take care of at our small kennel. Recently we acquired two new German Shepherd puppies, both are now just over 3 months old, and we are caring for two older German shepherds, one at age 8 and the other at age 13.

Exotic Farm Animals - Questions And Answers About Alpacas As Pets

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Wondering about raising alpacas as pets? Well, wonder no more. These sixteen questions and answers will help you decide if raising exotic farm animals will work for you.

1. How much room does an alpaca need?

One acre will keep five
alpacas healthy and happy.

2. What kind of fencing and shelter are needed for an alpaca?

Alpacas
will not challenge a fence. A fence is needed to keep predators out,
especially the neighborhood dog. It must be a fence that an alpaca can
not stick its head through and get stuck, too. 2 x 4 no climb fencing
works well. Be sure a dog can not dig under the fence or gate. A three-
sided shelter is plenty in most climates, in really cold areas you may want
a barn.
